Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY SportsThe San Diego Chargers opened up the preseason with a bang against the Dallas Cowboys. The Chargers have built up the roster and the depth down the roster is much better than in seasons past. The offense shined in the game. The quarterbacks were efficient and the running game was on point.
The quarterbacks only threw 2 incompletions in the whole game and those were thrown by Brad Sorensen. One of those incompletions went right through the hands of his receiver too.The team was moving the ball down the field. The team also gave up no sacks in the game. Very nice job by the passing attack.
The running game showed some nice things on the field too, besides that Ryan Mathews fumble in the end zone. Hopefully that will give him a little reminder to keep that ball a little tighter on him for the rest of the year. Donald Brown and Danny Woodhead both showed some nice things on the field in their opportunities as well. The running back that shined though was Branden Oliver. Oliver showed some wiggle and found ways to pick up big chunks of yards. He looks like he will be taking that 4th running back job.
Dontrelle Inman looked good on the offense. He caught a 70 yard pass from Kellen Clemens and showed speed and the ability to create some space from the defenders. He looks like a nice find for this offense and should contribute some this season.
The defense held the Cowboys to only 7 points in the game. I didn’t get to see much from the first team since I was waiting for my buddy in the parking lot. I will have to wait for next week to give a better evaluation on that part of the game.
