Jeromey Clary not guaranteed his starting job when he returns

San Diego Chargers RG Jeromey Clary started out training camp on the PUP list and is not able to practice with the rest of the team until he is taken off. He is recovering from offseason surgery on his shoulder. We still are waiting for him to come back.

When he does make his return, we don’t know where he will be and if he will be able to take back the starting guard spot.

Coach Mike McCoy made no promises that right guard Jeromey Clary will be starting when, and if, he returns from two surgeries.

With Clary on the sideline, Johnnie Troutman stepped in with the first team and will be looking to lock down the job for the long haul. Clary has to prove that he is fully recovered and can still block for his guys up front.

Even if Clary is not the starter on the team, I don’t see his roster spot as a concern. He is the best option at right tackle on the roster if D.J. Fluker needed someone to replace him. We can’t release the depth right now.
