S Brandon Taylor has been released by the San Diego Chargers today, via Chargers.com. He didn’t get much of an opportunity to get on the field with the team after being hampered with injury after injury. He was drafted in the third round a few seasons ago out of LSU and was expected to be our starting safety to fill the spot next to Eric Weddle, but things just didn’t work out the way we had planned.

Taylor got his first chance to start in his rookie season and suffered a season-ending injury during that game. He never was able to make it back on the field for the Chargers after that injury. .

It  looked like he was going to make a return last year during the preseason, but he suffered a setback and could not last till the regular season. .

The Chargers will have Marcus Gilchrist and Jahleel Addae battle out for the starting safety job next to Eric Weddle. Taylor could have been part of that mix, but he just did not work out. Addae seems to be the front runner to win that starting job.

It seems that there is a spot open in our secondary now….. Brandon Flowers?
