The San Diego Chargers made a couple of roster moves today. Nothing real exciting for the roster, but a running back that will compete for a spot on the practice squad. The team signed Branden Oliver as an undrafted free agent today. Oliver will have to do a lot in order to make the 53 man roster or some people will have to go down with an injury. Let’s just hope that is not the way that he finds his way on the roster.
At the running back position, the San Diego Chargers already have Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown locking down jobs. The team likely will have draft pick Marion Grice take a roster spot as well. That doesn’t leave many spots on the roster for him to make the squad. The team might not carry more than 4 backs on the roster.
San Diego fans might remember Oliver running wild on the Aztecs last season. He ran for 114 yards and had a touchdown in the game. He will get his opportunities to make the roster, but the practice squad looks like the best chance at a roster spot at this point.
In order to make room for Oliver, the team waived tackle Ian White and waived-injured Tobais Palmer.
