San Francisco 49ers RB LaMichael James is on the trading block and he is someone that would be a nice fit for the San Diego Chargers. He wouldn’t get many opportunities as a running back in his initial season on the roster, but he would be able to help immediately on special teams. He would be an impact player as a kick returner and punt returner for the team.

He could then be of use in the following season as a running back. Danny Woodhead is signed to the end of this coming season, but will become a free agent at the end of the year. If he were to walk, the team could use James in that Woodhead role on offense.

The biggest question for James is his cost. What will the 49ers be asking for as compensation? If the 49ers want anything more than a late round draft selection, then the Chargers should just look in another direction. The market for running backs have dipped tremendously in the last season and there are different options that can be picked up later in the draft for that special teams role. LaMichael James would be a nice player to pick up, but a player like DeAnthony Thomas could be picked up later in the draft as well.
