If Steve Smith is Available, Chargers Could Come Into Play

If Smith were to be released, the San Diego Chargers would be a team that could come into play. The Chargers are in need of some help at receiver and Smith would be someone who still can stretch the field and can also bring some toughness on the roster. The biggest link would be Smith’s relationship with Chargers head coach Mike McCoy. Before McCoy was part of the Broncos staff as the offensive coordinator, he was with the Carolina Panthers on their offensive staff.
Smith would have to take a cheap deal with the Chargers for a couple of seasons. We don’t have the dough to toss around on a rental receiver, but we do have a team that can compete and a quarterback that can get him the football. We have a head coach that he is very comfortable with and knows his potential. We have a need at the position and the need of a playmaker on offense that he would fill immediately. We have a young receiver, Keenan Allen, that could learn a ton from him.
The fit is there, we just need the dominoes to fall.
