A new year and the 25th pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Which under the radar player will Telesco pick in the first round, which surprising move will he make with the second and what gem will he find hidden in third?
With the first pick in the draft, the Chargers should be focused on restocking their defense. As Telesco stated earlier in the year, he wanted to add more team speed, the combine wasn’t short of Telesco’s wish.
The cornerback position looks to be very hefty with players like Justin Gilbert, Jason Verrett and Bradley Roby making waves at the NFL combine. If any of these players are not available or if Telesco feels it these players aren’t value picks at 25, the defense tackle position looked to be very solid.
Aaron Donald and Louis Nix are expected to be mid-first round picks and handed out a stellar performance at the NFL combine. Aaron Donald ranked among the top defensive lineman prospects, 4.68 in the 40-yard dash, 35 reps at the bench press and 7.11 in the three cone drill. Donald was noted for his lack of size, standing at 6’-1” and 285 pounds he would be smaller than both 300 pounders, Corey Luiget and Kendall Reyes while manning the center of the defense. Louis Nix didn’t show flashes during the combine, this could be attributed to a torn meniscus in his knee, he’s been recovering from. Nix also shed some weight, to stand in around 331 pounds and 6’-2” good measures for what the Chargers would be interested in.
My pick for the first round, if Justin Gilbert isn’t available I expect to see the Chargers keeping a close eye on Aaron Donald or Louis Nix.
