Before Michael Sam shared with the world, his draft stock might have been sliding a little bit. Sam is a defensive end in the college game, but might be too small to play the defensive end position in the NFL. He may have to move to outside linebacker and play more in space and that is not something that he is used to doing. He is a player that should be chasing after quarterbacks.
One scout said that Sam compares favorably to Larry English:
Nolan Nawrocki, who writes draft profiles for NFL.com, wrote in his profile of Sam that he compares favorably to Chargers LB Larry English, “an overhyped, overdrafted, marginal producer in the pros.” 0 (NFL.com)
Yup… Larry English. Not a good player to be compared to.
Now the projections seem to have him going in day 3 of the NFL draft. That would be the 4th round or later. Drafting Larry English after the 4th round seems like something that A.J. Smith should have done from the start.
Now do you want Sam?
