San Diego Chargers DC John Pagano has mixed some things up and has gotten a lot of production the last few weeks of the year. During the year, Pagano was handcuffed with the lack of depth on the roster. He was missing a lot of athleticism and talent on the defensive side of the football. He did the best he could with it and often it wasn’t enough.
A lot of key players are back on the field and Pagano is able to open up the playbook a little more.
Here is what Denver Broncos OC Adam Gase thinks of Pagano and his defense:
“He does a good job of mixing his pressures – who is coming. He brings everybody,” Gase said. “And then just the front movement. Sometimes you think you’re getting pressure and then all of a sudden everybody drops out. He does a really good job of making sure that you’re on it and then you constantly are challenged throughout the game.”
The Broncos are aware of some players returning to the field. Gase talked a little about it also:
“Pagano does a great job as far as using the guys that he has – with [linebacker Melvin] Ingram back, obviously that causes a different dimension as far as a problem,” Gase said. “He does a great job of mixing it up. It is not an easy scheme to play against and he does a very good job of keeping you off balance.”
Pagano has a big challenge. He will have to lock down Peyton Manning all over again. It won’t be easy.
