According to ESPN’s Matt Ehalt, the New York Jets would love the chance of derailing the Miami Dolphin’s post season chances. For the Jets, it’s about finishing 8-8 rather than 7-9, defeating a division rival and saving their head coach Rex Ryan’s job. For the San Diego Chargers, it’s one third of what is needed to sneak into the playoffs.
The Chargers will need help from the Jets beating the Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals defeating the Baltimore Ravens, as well as the Chargers finishing off the Kansas City Chiefs at home this Sunday to make this a reality.Cincinnati will too be playing with a purpose. If they win against the Ravens and the New England Patriots fall to the Buffalo Bills, they would be awarded the second seed and a first round bye.
The Jets head coach has had to bench their starting quarterback, Geno Smith on three occasions this season and has lost their home game against the Dolphins on December 1st, 23-3, however that isn’t to say they don’t have a fighting chance against the Dolphins this time around. The Jets have claimed victories over the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots this season.
Mike McCoy wants his team’s fans to pack in the stadium and to be loud and prepared for a shocking season finale. Nobody would have imagined the Chargers on the brink of making the playoffs, down to week 17 of the regular season, but the rookie head coach has led them this far and the Chargers are peaking at the right time, if only the stars would align for them once more, similar to the results of last week.
