The Chargers posted the Wednesday practice participation report earlier today. The list headlines Ryan Mathews, Eddie Royal, and #1 CB Shareece Wright as DNP.
Mathews is still nursing his hurt ankle, and he said earlier in the week that he expects to play against Kansas City. The Chargers need him to beat Kansas City and take some pressure off Philip Rivers. He will most likely start practicing either tomorrow or Friday.
Shareece Wright going down would be huge for the Chargers. Despite his shortcomings, he is the best corner on the roster and good enough to defend the Chiefs offense. Without him, the Chargers would have to start Richard Marshall and Derek Cox at CB. Wright left the game for a short time on Sunday with this injury, but was able to keep playing.
Jeromey Clary was also limited in practice with a hand injury. The ‘actual’ starting O-line of Dunlap-Rinehart-Hardwick-Clary-Fluker has played very well this season. If Clary goes down for week 17, Coach Mike McCoy will have to play musical O-line again and shuffle them around. We don’t want to do that for a game that could mean playoffs or not.
