Just saw some good news on the Derek Cox contract from a tweet by Kevin Acee:

Derek Cox contract guaranteed beyond this year for injury only. Can be cut before 3rd day of '14 league year and save #Chargers $4.25 mil.

AMAZING!

Thank goodness we didn’t get stuck with a player on a bad contract. A.J. Smith had done that to us right before he left and it hurt in the offseason when we were trying to bring in talent from free agency.

Cox has been playing awful this season. That missed tackle against Julius Thomas to start off the game was one of the worst efforts I had seen. It has been frustrating watching him cover receivers this year. He was brought onto the roster to lock down receivers, but he has been getting burned from day 1. If he can’t turn things around in a hurry, he likely will be out of a job soon and we won’t get totally screwed with his contract.
