The San Diego Chargers were shorthanded on Sunday at the linebacker position. Starting outside linebacker Jarret Johnson was unavailable because of a hamstring injury and was not able to participate in the win against the Indianapolis Colts. With Johnson on the sideline, the Chargers started the game off with Larry English and Tourek Williams on the outside.
It looks like Johnson is getting close to getting back on the field for Sundays. He participated in practice today. That is a good sign for the outside linebacker.
Slot receiver Eddie Royal hurt his toe in the game against the Colts and was not able to practice today. With Royal out of the game, newly acquired Lavelle Hawkins was getting action in the slot. If Royal is unable to go, Hawkins would be needed to play more.
Starting guard Chad Rinehart still is not on the practice field.
Donald Butler is not on the practice field again. He has been dealing with a groin injury. With Butler out, Andrew Gachkar saw his first start in his career in the middle.
