Chargers DE Dwight Freeney is going to have surgery for his torn quad and his season is now over also. The Chargers will be placing him on IR and he will be joining Malcom Floyd on the IR list.

This injury will hurt the team’s defense a ton. Freeney was one of the few players that could put pressure on the quarterback and he will be out for the season. The Chargers will now have to rely on Larry English and Tourek Williams to put pressure on the quarterback.

Freeney was brought onto the Chargers this offseason after Melvin Ingram went down with an injury. Freeney was brought on to be a presence in the Chargers pass rush and did a good job while he was in the game.

Now the Chargers will have to find a different way to generate pressure on the quarterback. We might have to scheme a way to get pressure on quarterbacks and we may have to use our middle linebackers more to blitz up the middle.

This should be an interesting defense.
