San Diego Chargers LB Manti Te’o still is recovering from his busted up foot and still has not hit the practice field. It would be tough for him to be conditioned to play against the Philadelphia Eagles anyway, but we need him to get back on the field. He has now missed his first 2 starts of the year and we have no clue on when he will be available.

He has been running and doing work on the side field. He is getting closer. The boot is gone. Still, he is not close enough to start practicing.

The league’s 2nd leading tackler, Bront Bird, will get the start in his place. Bird may have a ton of tackles, but that doesn’t tell the story. Bird made a ton of those tackles down the field and he also had a pair of touchdowns caught by the tight ends he should have been covering. He needs to make an impact with some of those plays.

This week, he will be trying to gather in Lesean McCoy and cover Brent Celek. It will be another tough assignment for Bird. We need him to make plays.
