Mandatory Credit: Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY SportsWhere was that San Diego Chargers running game that I thought would spring up. It was needed in the clutch, but it was nowhere to be seen.
Ryan Mathews and Ronnie Brown were consistently stuffed at the line. With a big lead like that, we needed to be able to run some time off the clock, chew up yards and get first downs. We were 3 and out city!
The offensive line could not make holes and the run game looked stale. We could not get anything moving and in the end it bit us right in the butt.
The Houston Texans are a Super Bowl caliber team, but we had them dead and we couldn’t put that finishing blow on them. We couldn’t show anything with the run.
That is where the Chargers could have made their mark and showed the rest of the league that they are a team to look out for. Instead, we choked it away.
We need Ryan Mathews to be that back that can close the game out. We need those offensive linemen to create a hole for those backs. We need to run that football!
