Tonight is Monday Night Football.  The 2-3 Denver Broncos at the 3-2 San Diego Chargers in a game for first place.  This game is anticipated to be a shootout with big plays on both sides of the ball for both teams.  I’m anticipating seeing plays that I will remember forever.  That got me thinking about my favorite Chargers moment.  A play that I remember as vividly today as the moment it happened almost 20 years ago.

It was 1994.  The Chargers were 11-5 and headed into the playoffs after winning the the AFC West Championship and getting the #2 AFC playoff seed.   After defeating the Dolphins the Chargers went on the play the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Steelers had a 13-3 halftime lead, then the Chargers came back, the Chargers were winning 17-13 and the Steelers were marching down the field, about to score, with seconds left.  Then it happened.

The Steelers were on the San Diego 3-yard line.  A pass thrown to Barry Foster for the touchdown and the win.  Out of nowhere, Chargers linebacker Dennis Gibson sealed the victory on fourth down by deflecting the pass.  He was in the air, horizontal, and only hit the ball with two fingers.

What a play.  I heard screams, horns honking, people running in the streets and I had tears streaming down my face.
