Chargers at Saints: Areas of Confidence

By Ernie Padaon

The Big L….. BIG FOOT!! Denny Medley-US PRESSWIRE

The New Orleans Saints are dangerous, but there is a reason why they don’t have a win this season. Their offense is at the top of the charts, but their defense is horrid!

They rank at the very bottom of the league, giving up 463.2 yards per game. They have given up an average of 32.5 points per game. That is some type of UGLY!

This is some great news for Philip Rivers and that offense. Robert Meachem will also have a little extra incentive to torch his former team. He has not done much this season, but the lowly Saint defense makes a break out game possible.

The Chargers can also take the ball out of Drew Brees hands with their rushing attack. Jackie Battle can pound the ball inside and Ryan Mathews should also get a boat load of carries. The Saints allowed Jamaal Charles to run WILD on them. Time for the Chargers backs to do work and eat up the clock.

Having Jared Gaither back at left tackle is a huge boost for the Chargers offense as well. You can see the difference against the Chiefs and now he will get a little more practice time and be a little better against the Saints. More running lanes and more passing lanes with the big man standing at left tackle.

The Chargers defense is better than years past also. Last season’s Chargers defense would have been expected to be ripped to shreds. This season, they might still get ripped, but they can force big time, game-changing plays. The defense can force turnovers and that is HUGE against an offense like this. They will move the ball, but we can turn it around real fast.

It will be a dog fight this weekend.

Any other areas of confidence in this game?
