Morning Dump

By Ernie Padaon

The Chargers returned to the field with a late practice on Wednesday. Emotionally, there was little evidence the team opened the season with a 22-14 road victory over the Raiders. Perhaps the lack of energy reflected a workmanlike attitude, or maybe the players were still tired from playing on Monday night.

The team faced a similar situation last year, when home games against the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals were not aired locally. In 2010, the Chargers had three games that also did not air locally, including the team’s first two of the season.

We have a great group of receivers—a lot of depth. Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates have both been here nine, 10 years. You add guys like (Robert) Meachem and (Eddie) Royal and (Micheal) Spurlock and Richard Goodman, and it’s a good group—a group that we’re excited about. Week 1 a lot of those guys touched the ball, including the running backs—obviously a big part of our passing game. I think seven different guys caught a pass. It’s a collective effort by all those guys.

It doesn’t sound like Titans middle linebacker Colin McCarthy (ankle) will play against the Chargers on Sunday. He didn’t practice on Wednesday, and coach Mike Munchak seemed pessimistic about the second-year pro’s chances of playing.
