Takeo Spikes is entering his 16th season in the NFL. When picked up by the Chargers via free agency, he was very shortly there after named a team captain. This would be his fourth team in which he has held that honor.
Although Spikes isn’t getting any younger, he is still putting up good stats for the Chargers.
Takeo has over 1300 tackles and has played in over 200 games in the regular season.
Despite these astounding numbers, Spikes has yet to record his first tackle in a playoff game. How is that even possible, you ask? Because he has not played in even one NFL post season contest.
Soon after the Spikes acquisition, I recall an interview in which Spikes brought that fact up. I immediately thought he was kidding. But it’s true.
How can a 15 year NFL vet not have even one playoff game under his belt? Despite having played for a couple of pretty poor teams, you would think that at some point a team he was on would have managed to at least stumble into the playoffs. Unfortunately for Spikes, it has yet to happen.
Now that the Bolts have missed the last two postseasons, the question remains. Is this the year that Takeo finally gets to the playoffs?
I truly believe that this is the year. In fact, I believe he will play in four postseason contests this year. And I think he will be rewarded with a certain trophy that has been described as having a gleam.
There’s a gleam, men. A gleam.
Thanks a lot for reading.
P.S. I heard this crazy rumor that the football season begins tonight. It’s about time.
