The Chargers added some meat in the middle of the defense with the acquisition of NT Aubrayo Franklin. With Franklin on the roster, it will allow more flexibility and a deeper rotation for the players on the defensive line. Antonio Garay is one of the guys up front that could be asked to move around a little more:

Antonio Garay does have the ability to slide over and play defensive end. Right now, we look at it as three deep at nose tackle. Franklin and Thomas will be nose tackles, but Garay does have the versatility to move around for Coach (John) Pagano.” – AJ Smith

Aside from Jacques Cesaire, the defensive ends on the roster are a little green. They gained valuable experience last season, but Garay would be able to add a lot more experience up front. The rotation at defensive end would include Corey Liuget, Vaughn Martin, Garay, Kendall Reyes and Cesaire.

There will be a lot of questions to answer on the defensive front during training camp. Will Franklin return to form moving back to nose tackle? How quickly will Liuget and Martin develop? Will Garay bounce back from last year? Can we get more snaps for Cam Thomas?

Garay sliding over to end could be a nice change of scenery for the big man. We need those guys up front making a push in the backfield and clogging up those holes. We need a big year up front!
