Where Does Another Outside LB Fit On The Chargers Roster?

We need a pass rusher! We need a pass rusher!

Mock drafts have us focusing on players like Nick Perry, Whitney Mercilus or Courtney Upshaw, BUT where is the roster spot for these guys?

All of these guys will be an outside linebacker in our system, but our roster is filled with outside backers.

We just brought in Jaret Johnson to be the starter opposite of Shaun Phillips. Off the bench, we have Antwan Barnes, Travis LaBoy and Larry English. Even Darryl Gamble is still on the roster, but he won’t be long if we bring in a guy in the draft. Where does that leave a spot?

The depth at the spot is there, but three of these guys are in the final year of their contracts. Phillips, Barnes and LaBoy will be free agents at the end of the season.

Also, can we really expect Larry to be injury-free this coming season? Shaun had to fight through some injuries last year also and missed 4 games. Double J has been a rock for the Ravens and we can only hope that he continues to be that ironman in a Bolts uniform.

We definitely have the room for an outside linebacker, but it will be interesting to see how Coach Pagano uses them. Phillips is one of our best pass rushers when he is healthy and Barnes, who led the team in sacks last year, will come in for Johnson on passing downs

So where do you use English or the new draft pick? When do they get the opportunity to show that they can get after the quarterback? How do you use all these guys? The Giants find a way to get all their pass rushers on the field and we better do the same!

One of these guys will probably not make the roster. Could it be LaBoy? OR have we seen the last of English?
