With Mike Tolbert heading out east to the Carolina Panthers, the Chargers are looking for more replacements on the offensive side of the ball. Today they brought in RB Jackie Battle for a little look (Michael Gehlken), but no contract has been offered yet. I have also heard Cadillac Williams mentioned as a possible replacement. Whoever is going to fill the role, has to be able to step up and be the starter at some point during the season. Ryan Mathews has not shown the ability to get out of a pile without something pulled or some limp, so we need to have some sort of insurance behind him. I am not too impressed with the names that I have heard so far, but we need someone to step up big for us.

Battle is a big bruising runningback and could be reunited with LeRon McClain in the San Diego backfield. He is still young and he likes to go over the top of the pile near the end zone. He showed signs of ability with the Chiefs last year.

Cadillac Williams seems a bit run down for my taste. I don’t think he has any knees! I would rather give the rock to Curtis Brinkley and let him run with it.

I’m interested to see who else they have on the radar. I will keep the ears on alert and will let you all know as soon as I hear something.
