If you are like me this morning, you are finding out that the Chargers struck a deal with WR Robert Meachem late last night. They signed him to a 4-year deal for $25.9 million with $14 million in guarantees.
Meachem will immediately jump in the starting lineup and take over the spot that Vincent Jackson vacated. Meachem will start opposite of Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown will be the guy in the slot.
Meachem has never started more than 8 games, so this will be his opportunity to see more playing time. I think he will do well with Philip Rivers throwing him the ball and in Norv Turner’s offense. I guess he won’t be wearing number 17 anymore.
Meachem will be a big time deep threat which will open up the underneath routes for Antonio Gates. Either Gates will be open or you hit Meachem over the top.
