Chargers special counsel Mark Fabiani told a roomful of regional leaders Wednesday that a new football stadium is more likely to get built with political and financial support from around the county, and that a public vote on the venue would almost certainly slip to 2013 — when a fresh crop of politicians would be joining the debate.

SAN DIEGO — The Make-a-Wish foundation does regular work with the Chargers. Meetings between ill children and their favorite players are arranged complete with a tour of the Chargers’ complex, some one-on-one time with stars and tickets to a home game.

Even though San Diego Chargers’ season may have ended in disappointment for Rivers and his teammates, the Pro Bowl quarterback has definitely earned his ticket to Indianapolis. Rivers will be in the spotlight Saturday night when he is a finalist for the NFL Man of the Year award. It is the most prestigious off-field honor the league bestows. The other finalists for the award that focuses on charitable efforts are Baltimore’s Matt Birk and Chicago’s Charles Tillman.
