The guys over at NFL Mocks created a 2012 Mock Draft for our San Diego Chargers. With their mock draft they assumed that we would be drafting with the 18th overall pick in the draft. They may have to re-do it all over again, because we are currently sitting at the 11th pick in the draft and knocking on the door for a top 10 selection.

Here is what NFL Mocks went with on our first couple of picks in the draft:

1st round: Brandon Jenkins, OLB, Florida State University

Jenkins numbers are down this year, but that’s because hes’ playing more of a hybrid DE/OLB position and being asked to drop into coverage much more and take on double teams. He’s a really quality player who will benefit from the practice dropping into coverage. Larry English isn’t the answer for the Chargers outside. The Chargers need to find someone to pair with Shuan Phillips. Adding a good pass rusher is one way to help their secondary out as well.

2nd Round: LaMichael James, RB, Oregon

The Chargers offense doesn’t seem the same this year without Darren Sproles to make all of the plays he did. This is why I think a player like LaMichael James will really intrigue them if he’s available in the second round. James has dynamic speed and can be a receiver out of the backfield as well. He’s also larger than Sproles was and can run more traditional running plays. Ryan Matthews is having an awesome season, Mike Tolbert is a really nice player, but the element Sproles brought to this team is sorely missed, I’d be surprised if they don’ try to rectify that this year.
