Could Bryan Walters be on the Chargers Chopping Block?
Yesterday the Chargers placed LB Stephen Cooper on the injured reserve and it seemed that they would have filled his spot with a running back from the practice squad. Instead they filled the spot with another linebacker, Gerald Hayes, to add depth and experience behind Takeo Spikes. Coop was not able to provide much help with his torn biceps muscle.
SO, since we didn’t use Cooper’s roster spot for a running back, who is next on the chopping block? Rookie Jordan Todman might not be ready for action yet and they may be looking to add someone with more experience. Frank Summers or Curtis Brinkley are the likely backs to be put on the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
If one of them come up, here are a few guys that could be on the chopping block:
Bryan WaltersWalters was a superstar in the preseason, but it has not translated to the regular season yet. He has been put on the inactive list for the last 2 games and has slipped down the depth chart with Vincent Brown and Patrick Crayton returning to health. He also lost his punt return duties to Crayton. If he clears waivers, he would be eligible for the practice squad.
Darryl GambleAnother preseason star that has not been able to get into games. He has been active for one game this year and was part of the opening day kickoff return from Percy Harvin that was taken back for a touchdown. He has been on the inactive list since that game. If he clears waivers, he would be eligible for the practice squad.
