Could the Chargers Bring Up Frank Summers Soon?
Frank "The Tank" Summers
We will be seeing a new running back dressed for the Bolts in week 7. Norv Turner was not happy with his depth at the position at the end of the Donkey game. With Ryan Mathews and Mike Tolbert injured, he only had Jacob Hester left to run the ball with Randy McMichael sliding over from his tight end spot to play fullback.
Either Frank Summers, Curtis Brinkley OR Jordan Todman will be the fourth guy out there. Brinkley and Summers have NFL experience over Todman and one of them could get the nod. If it is Brinkley or Summers, someone will have to get cut off of the active roster (maybe time for Stephen Cooper to be released?).
I will be rooting for the 5-10, 255 pound fullback Frank Summers to be brought up from the practice squad. Todman and Brinkley are the same type of runners and would only be used if Tolbert or Mathews went down again. Summers could bring a different element to the team.
All through training camp, there was talk about the physical nature of Summers. How he LOVES the contact and looks forward to the collisions. He could help out with the red zone offense by plowing open holes for Ryan Mathews or Mike Tolbert to squeeze their way through. Adding that extra beef in the backfield could be a nice piece to add to the running attack.
Frank the Tank!
