SAN DIEGO — Whistle in hand, Rich Bisaccia runs down the practice field behind the San Diego Chargers kickoff team. At 51, he looks like he could make a tackle. On kickoff returns, he follows the ball carrier as he looks for a crease.

For a Sunday game played in the Central time zone, the Chargers would normally fly out on Friday afternoon. But this week, they’re heading to Dallas on Wednesday, not to enjoy the fabulous Tex-Mex cuisine at Joe T. Garcia’s. The Chargers and Cowboys are scrimmaging (they still call it “practice,” though) a couple days.

The rookie receiver was called up due to injury and had a two-touchdown game against Houston in November. He finished with 13 receptions on the season and has come back seemingly better in every facet as a wideout.

Training camp technically ended on Tuesday afternoon, concluding a stretch in which players weren’t allowed to go home at night. Chargers coach Norv Turner canceled Wednesday’s practice, scheduled for the morning before the team leaves for Dallas. The team will practice against the Cowboys on Thursday and Friday and play them on Sunday night in their seconds preseason game. … RG Tyronne Green practiced with the first team for the second straight day. … TE Antonio Gates practiced in full for the third straight day, but Turner said he’ll rachet Gates’ workload back in the coming days. … ILB Takeo Spikes took the day off for veteran’s rest. TE Kory Sperry, WR Seyi Ajirotutu, DB Dante Hughes, SS Steve Gregory, G/C Scott Mruczkowski and WR Vincent Brown also skipped practice. … LB James Holt was released.
