Perhaps it’s a bit overly dramatic, but Chargers head coach Norv Turner knows an extra day off in the NFL is worth a whole lot more than the sum of its 24 hours.
The San Diego Chargers have started a new season and the slate is clean once again. Last season, Antonio Garay proved that the hype surrounding his potential was warranted as he did a good job replacing beloved All-Pro defensive tackle Jamal Williams.
The news coming out of Chargers Park for the last few days is almost entirely positive. Sure, Marcus McNeill had to have minor surgery and will probably miss all but the final preseason game leading up to the season, but he was back to his usual Pro Bowl form after one poor game in St. Louis last season. I’m not worried.
Larry English returned to work on Saturday from a foot injury that had kept him out of camp, while Antwan Barnes has missed an extended period with a strained quadriceps. That has left LaBoy to take reps with the first team, and the seventh-year veteran has impressed.
