Ryan Mathews Likely Will Miss Thursday’s Preseason Game

It’s the start of a new season and we are supposed to put some things of the past on the back burner. All the injury issues that Ran Mathews had last year would hopefully heal up during the offseason and we would have a fresh running back to start off this season. Unless of course, Ryan is FRAGILE!

Ryan will likely miss this game on Thursday with a slightly strained muscle in his upper leg, according to the Union-Tribune. He also has had trouble getting going in camp with “SORENESS” and he came into camp struggling with his conditioning. Not exactly the kind of start we wanted to hear from our young back.

I am hoping that the kid can get healed up, because after him on the depth chart is rookie Jordan Todman. This may give a chance for some of the youngsters like Isaac Odim to make the roster. These guys may turn out to be great backs, but we don’t need to force them into the action just yet.

Mathews can be a beast if he gets on the field… but he has to find a way to stay on the field. Let’s hold off on the “fragile” term for now, since he only has had one full season and since they are being very cautious for a preseason game, but we will be watching.
