David Akers not expecting to be back in Philly. cc: Chargers

Just ran into an article that says that David Akers will not be back with the Philadelphia Eagles next year. I really hope that the San Diego Chargers are paying attention to this.
Here is the quote from Akers:
“Right now it’s so hard to speculate, but right now I would say ‘no’ if I was a betting man,” Akers said. “But with how long [the lockout] is lasting and the craziness of the free-agency market, I’m not saying 100 percent anything.”
Special Teams killed us throughout the regular season last year and it kept us out of the playoffs. A couple of seasons ago, it was the special teams that shared the responsibility for us not advancing through the playoffs.
Nate Kaeding has been a great regular season kicker for us and has helped us win games, but when the playoffs have come around he has choked it all away. In the playoffs, he is 8-for-15 in his field goal attempts, which equates to a terrible 53.3%.
The Indianapolis Colts were not able to get over the hump until they brought in Adam Vinatieri to make the clutch kicks. We need to make that similar move here and bring in a kicker that can make the play when it counts.
David Akers would be an awesome addition to the team. He has been in the league for 13 seasons and has shown that he can make the clutch kicks. He has been to the Pro-Bowl 5 times and is one of the best in the business. I am sure that we would be able to get a draft pick for Kaeding from someone.
Special teams WERE a problem, let’s fix EVERY aspect of it!
