Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips: Twitter Brothers With A Soft Side

By Mike Emmons

Do these guys look tough to you?

Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips are monsters on the Chargers defense and we are used to seeing them take out QB after QB, but one side you haven’t seen of these two are there sensitive and elegant “Twitter” sides.

I’ve been following the two linebackers for quite a while now on Twitter and although their tweets consist mostly of working out and energy drinks, they have shown a somewhat softer side. A side they hide underneath their weights and muscles, a side neither of them would like to show their opponents.

I’ve compiled some “rare moment” tweets from Merriman and Phillips that show a more delicate side. While reading these, think about the sack happy linebackers aggressively taking out running backs and QB’s.

We will first start off with a couple of Shawne Merriman’s tweets:

Regarding Chris Brown’s apology –

ShawneMerriman: I think EVERYBODY makes mistakes N life & should be given another chance & he can apologize until he’s blue N the face but time will fix it 11:41 PM Jul 20th from TweetDeck

After watching the movie Bruno –

ShawneMerriman: Morning not really goodmorning cuz i didnt sleep that good i kept having dreams of bruno shaking his pelvis N the screen Y did i see it? WHY? about 7 hours ago from TwitterBerry

Discussing his personal feelings about T.O.’s reality TV show –

ShawneMerriman: speaking of shows what yall think of TO’s show? personally i like it and it shows players in a different light about 6 hours ago from TweetDeck

Now a couple of Shaun Phillips touching tweets:

Regarding a beautiful lunch outing and a positive outlook on the day –

ShaunPhillips95: Lunch meeting. I think Italian sounds good. about 4 hours ago from UberTwitter

After admitting he has been a bad twitter friend –

ShaunPhillips95: Sorry I have been a bad twitter friend today. I haven’t tweeted all day I’m sorry but baby I’m back. I had a long day and I’m making a change about 19 hours ago from UberTwitter

Giving out some great, thoughtful words of wisdom –

ShaunPhillips95: So the final verdict is always tell the truth and just deal with the consequences.9:52 AM Jul 20th from UberTwitter

So you see, these two tough guy, hard hitting, gym addicted, Chargers linebackers are normal guys too! The live, love, and care for friends and family. Sure they are used to beating down their opponents into a pulp, but hey, big guys have big hearts too!

Now back to the gym, the both of ya!
