A fake game against some guys who will be jobless come September is still fun to watch. In the preseason, you just hope to win a game or two and get out of it with little or no injuries. So far, so good.

First team versus first team, the Cowboys definitely seemed more put together than the Chargers. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo was effective and their offense seemed game ready. I can’t imagine this team has slept well since their last game.

San Diego, on the other hand, looked shaky and went three-and-out on their opening series. Rivers was put down by Tank Johnson. Oddly, it was good to get the hit out of the way early and see the quarterback jump back into the huddle. The knee is fine and Philip hung into the second quarter with two scoring drives.

In LaDainian Tomlinson’s absence, Darren Sproles took the rock and had a five yard score.

Depth won out in the end, as the Chargers scored 24 consecutive points to hang a ‘w’ in their preseason opener, 31-17.

Overall, the lack of production from the backup Cowboys is more of a warning sign then a sleepy Chargers offense sans L.T.

Nevertheless, as I watched the game, I couldn’t help but wonder if it’s a Super Bowl preview. It’s a long road until now and then, but both teams seemed to be headed in the same direction.
