Former San Diego Chargers K Nate Kaeding signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this morning. Kaeding is currently the second most accurate field goal kicker in the league and will now have to compete with Connor Barth for the kicker job. This will be a way for Kaeding to showcase his skills to some team during the pre-season and hopefully latch on there. Barth will likely be the kicker for Tampa and Kaeding is using this as an audition for the rest of the league.

I guess he likes that Florida area. He played for the Miami Dolphins last season.

Quincy Black season has officially ended after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed him on IR. He was the linebacker that was involved in that scary collision with Ryan Mathews over the weekend. He suffered a neck injury and was having problems with his left arm. He didn’t suffer any spinal damage, but the injury was significant to keep him out for the rest of the year. His return to the field is still undetermined. Prayers out for Quincy and his recovery.

Prayers out for Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Quincy Black. Black was a playmaker on Sunday, but on one particular play, Black was in a huge collision with Ryan Mathews and was laid out after the hit. He had to be taken off on a stretcher.

After evaluation, Black did not suffer any spinal damage, but he had “full function” with the exception of a problem with his left arm.

“Overall, he’s going to be OK,” Schiano said. “Now, it’s a serious injury. And he’s having some complications with his left arm. So there’s still further tests he has to go through before we can make a definitive statement. But it’s serious. How much time that means, we’re going to have to see.”

“The spine is fine. It’s nerves and things coming off. I don’t want to say too much because I’m not even exactly sure, and I don’t want to misspeak,” Schiano said.

“But I do know that it’s going to need some further tests to get to the bottom of it,” the coach added. “There’s a lot of really smart, good doctors that are working on it right now for Quincy, which makes me feel good. We’re going to get him the best care, and get the best solution, and get him back to being well.”

In the end, this is just a game. It is a tremendously violent game and seeing players laid out after a hit is scary. Prayers go out to Black for a full recovery.
