The Chargers may be in their bye condition, but newspapers do not take weeks off. So we’re not going to let them get away clean, not with their ridiculous 4-5 record. They deserve a bye week report card, and they’re getting one.

The names are on the back of the uniform, but only for games, and not for practice. Go ahead and make the obligatory, smart-aleck crack about them needing name-tags on the front, too, but nobody would laugh.

It’s not an overconfidence. It’s a belief that the intangible demons that held them back have been exorcised and a recognition that they’ve done it the right way before and are once again.

Darrell Stuckey was expected to challenge for playing time and perhaps even start in some packages at strong safety after a solid spring and start to training camp.

But the Chargers’ fourth-round pick suffered a groin injury a little more than a week into camp, missed almost two weeks and was never able to fully catch up once he returned.
