The San Diego Chargers need help on the offensive line in a bad way. We aren’t in a position to spend a ton of money on a player like Jake Long or Branden Albert, so we probably need to milk a couple of years from some veterans while adding some talent from the draft.

A veteran that could become available at a good price is Pittsburgh Steelers OT Max Starks. Starks has been on the Steelers since 2004 and has won two championships with them. He has won a championship as the starting left tackle and as the starting right tackle. One of his championships came with Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt as their OC. Maybe Starks will want to work with Whisenhunt once again.

Starks is not going to be a franchise left tackle, but he will be solid on the left side. He will be a big time upgrade over anything we have on the roster now.

Starks is a mountain of a man. He stands at 6-foot-8, 340 pounds. 31 years old and has a ton of experience under his belt. He is a leader and knows how to win.

The Steelers are likely going to let him walk. They have been trying to let him walk for the last few years, but he keeps finding a way back into the locker room. He was cut once and the team has drafted offensive tackles early the last two years. This could finally be the time that he skips out of town.

If the Chargers were to sign Starks, he could quickly be inserted into the starting lineup as a left tackle. If we draft a left tackle in April, we can just slide Starks over to the right side. Everyone knows that Jeromey Clary has his troubles on the right side. Starks can fill in the gap for a season or two until we bring in another tackle.

We all should have known that Big Ben’s return game would have been against the Chargers. That is just the luck that we have with this team.

The Steelers made it official and Ben Roethlisberger will make his return on Sunday. He will probably orchestrate a 4th quarter comeback on us like the rest of the league has done. There isn’t a huge risk for him to return against us anyway, because we can’t sack the quarterback. We can play some sweet defense, but that is part of the game that we still have not figured out.

So Big Ben is back. Sarcastic yay.
