After considering all these players in the draft for the 18th pick, I am sure there are a few names that you don’t want the Chargers to select at the 18th pick. I know I have a few names on my list that you guys love, but for some reason I don’t like them.

Here are a few names I don’t want to hear the Chargers select at 18:

Harrison Smith – Round 2, yes! Later in round 1, yes! Pick 18, PLEASE NO!

Nick Perry – For some reason I think he started getting over-hyped. His combine workout was awesome, but I don’t know if he fits as a 3-4 linebacker.

Chandler Jones – He LOOKS like a good football player, but he has not done anything on the field.

Dontari Poe – Just because a big man can run doesn’t mean that he can plug a hole on the defensive line.

Shea McClellin – Another guy I would love to get in round number 2, but his headaches (concussions) scare the poop out of me

Go ahead and kill me for putting Perry on this list. If you asked me who I wanted us to select a couple of months ago, he was on the top of my list, but now I  would rather go in another direction. I know, I know, I know… just murder me on the comments and tell me why I should get back on that bandwagon!

Who are the players that you don’t want to hear the Chargers selecting at pick number 18?

Before I became sick as a dog this weekend, I went out to Fashion Valley on Friday to hang out and then had dinner at this place called Stacked. While waiting for a table, this HUGE man with a NIKE FOOTBALL t-shirt walks up to put his name on the list. I figured he played some football somewhere or table tennis.

I stare at him for a little bit and then realize that this dude is Nick Perry out of USC! He’s sitting outside on the bench next to mine and my 14 month old son kept running by, falling down and smiling at him. I kept staring at him and even had to pull up pics of Perry on my phone and asked all my friends if the guy on my phone was the guy sitting on the bench next to us. Then the hostess from Stacked calls out “Nick, party of 2″ and he stood up and went in.

I don’t like to bother the guys when they are out trying to enjoy their night. I wonder if Nick was trying to get a little preview of what his new home could be.

Just looking at him in real life made me more impressed. He is a massive man! His arms are the size of my head and he morphs anyone that stands next to him. Unfortunately, from my brief encounter, I have no idea if he would be able to drop back into pass coverage. I do know he likes the shakes over at Stacked!!

John Spanos was in attendance for the USC Pro Day yesterday to get another look at OLB/DE prospect Nick Perry (UT). Perry impressed scouts during the combine and showed that he is a freak athlete with his outstanding performance.

There are a lot of questions about his ability in pass coverage and that is what the Chargers scouts were closely looking at during the USC Pro Day. Perry was mainly a pass rusher and had his hand on the ground in USC and he excelled in that role, but as an OLB he will be asked to have a few more responsibilities. Will he have the ability to adapt?

Perry is expected to be drafted in the middle of the first round and some people have mocked him in the top 10. If we think that he can make the conversion to OLB, then he should be our draft pick. We need to find someone to fill the role that Shawne Merriman had in our defense. Larry English was supposed to be that guy, but that idea fell flat on its face. We just hope to get 6 games out of Larry English now.

Maybe Nick Perry will be that guy.
