San Diego said goodbye to Junior Seau on Friday evening as best it could. Chargers fans cheered highlights of his greatest plays, laughed at stories of his charm and humor and cried at their shared loss.

In the stadium where he was a star linebacker for the San Diego Chargers for 13 seasons, thousands of fans and other well-wishers went to Qualcomm Stadium on Friday night to celebrate the life of Junior Seau.

SAN DIEGO — Former San Diego Chargers stars Dan Fouts, Rodney Harrison and LaDainian Tomlinson are scheduled to speak at a memorial service for Junior Seau on Friday evening at Qualcomm Stadium.

San Diego Chargers chaplain Shawn Mitchell said Junior Seau’s family is revisiting its decision to donate the former NFL linebacker’s brain for research into football-related injuries.

“The Seau family is currently revisiting several important family decisions and placing them on hold in order to confer with their elders,” according to a statement from Pastor Shawn Mitchell, longtime San Diego Charger chaplain and now pastor of the New Venture Christian Fellowship in Oceanside.

Several hundred people took part in a paddle-out in front of Junior Seau’s Oceanside (San Diego County) home to pay tribute to the former NFL linebacker.

That’s how many concussions Gary Plummer, Seau’s friend and former teammate with the San Diego Chargers, estimates Seau must have suffered during his 20 years in the NFL.
