Kris Dielman is considering coming back out of retirement (Kevin Acee). The Chargers released him today, so if he were to come back, he would be a free agent and available for any team to sign.

Dielman is a STUD, but a return to the NFL is a huge gamble. He had a scary incident last season with a concussion and a seizure on the flight home.

If Dielman is healthy and returns to the Chargers, he could be a force on our offensive line. He is one of the best in the business and he has got the itch to play football.

Why would the Chargers release him off the roster? Could that mean that this rumor is actually true? Dielman’s current contract would probably put the team over the cap and the team would have to rework a deal with him if he wants to stay wearing lightning bolts.  If he just stayed retired, there wouldn’t be any reason to release him off the roster.

UPDATE…. nevermind:

Kris Dielman will not play again. Un-retiring was a technicality. It appears there will be legal action related to end of his career.

Everyone wants to write in Tyronne Green as the instant replacement for Kris Dielman on the offensive line. He stepped in for Dirty Diel last season and did well in the starting lineup.

Green was taken in the fourth round of the 2009 draft out of Auburn. He started 8 games last season and started another 7 games the season before. It sounds like he has put in a lot of work this offseason and he wants to take over that starting role.

Going into training camp, Green will be given every opportunity to be the starter on the left side. He will be given competition from Brandyn Dombrowski though.

Dombo did awful filling in at left tackle last season, but he still seems capable at left guard. He has been on the roster since 2009 also, after signing as an undrafted free agent out of SDSU. He has started 15 games for the team all over the line.

This will be one of the battles in camp to keep your eyes on. We don’t have the anchor in Kris Dielman on the roster anymore, so the starting gig is up for grabs. Who will be the starter going into the season?

With Kris Dielman hanging the jersey up today, the lead candidate to take over the starting job at left guard is Tyronne Green. Green became the starter last season after the unfortunate incident happened to Dielman. He did fairly well, but he will have some huge shoes to fill!

Green was drafted in 2009 in the 4th round out of Auburn. Scott Mruczkowski and Brandyn Dombrowski are both free agents, but they could be kept on for depth at the position.

He played pretty well on the left side with Jared Gaither last season and this could be his opportunity to show that he can be a starter in this league. He had a chance to learn behind one of the best and hopefully he can apply what he has been taught.

It would be nice to have a veteran on the depth chart though. I really like the idea of bringing in a player like Steve Hutchinson, just in case we suffer an injury on the line.

David Decastro out of Stanford could be available when we draft at 18 OR we could go the free agency route and try to bring in a player like Carl Nicks from New Orleans. As awesome as both of those options sound, AJ’s style would be to have Green as the starter and Dombo as the backup.
