Vincent Jackson was able to reach a one year deal with an undisclosed team but the Chargers were not able to agree to terms of a trade, according to Jackson’s agent.

Why is the agent working out a contract when a trade is not in place anyway? Also, does this mean that he was talking to a team other than the Seattle Seahawks? I thought that the only team that was given permission to talk to Jackson was the Seattle Seahawks. Vincent Jackson is NOT an unrestricted free agent and the Chargers own his rights. Jackson is not able to freely look for a team… hence the term, RESTRICTED Free Agent!

There is no way that the Chargers will accept a trade that will bring them less than a 3rd round pick back. Even if Vincent Jackson walks away as an unrestricted free agent next year, the Chargers would get a compensatory pick in the 3rd round. General Manager AJ Smith will just wait it out.

Vincent Jackson and his agent decided to play this game of chicken, and it seems that he is losing! The more I see Vincent Jackson in the news, the more it feels that they are in panic mode and trying to stir the pot. I don’t see Marcus McNeill in the newspaper anywhere. Vincent, find your self a designated driver and just sit quietly at home!

I know that Shawne Merriman has signed his cotnract for the season. I know that there are two other players that are holding out for a larger contract (Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill). But, doesn’t it feel like Shawne is still holding out. Shawne signed his contract right before the first game of the preseason and still has not seen any time of the field. There is even a question that he may not see the field on the opening day of the season. He has been sitting out practices and games with a sore achilles and the more it unfolds, the more it feels as if Shawne will be sitting on the Injured Reserve soon. Is this his way of holding out and sticking it back to General Manager AJ Smith?

Shawne is a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball and will be missed if he sits during the regular season. Let’s just hope that his injury heals soon and that he will be bashing heads this Monday. He constantly gets the attention of the opposing offense and often draws the double team allowing his other teammates to make the play.

Shawne should be looking to play this season, since he has a lot to prove in order to make that big payday that he is looking for. He needs to show other teams that he still has that explosion and that he is one of the best linebackers in the league. If he is unable to show it this season, he will have to settle for less money and less years and probably end up on the Jets like the rest of the Chargers leftovers!!

Shawne, please end your “hold out” and get back on the field! Show off that lights out dance and put a hurt on some quarterbacks!!
