Eric Winston and the San Diego Chargers talked about possible contract, but Winston walked away looking for a better deal. He still is searching for that deal today. He was trying to work a deal with the Dallas Cowboys, but that didn’t pan out. He is wandering around that free agency market trying to find a good deal.

Winston is looking for $3 million to $4 million a year on a short deal, but he hasn’t found that contract yet.

The Chargers likely have a contract around the $2 million/year in mind. If the Chargers sign Eric Winston to be their right tackle, then it would probably be followed by a Jeromey Clary release. The Chargers would be able to save $2.3 million with that release and help pay for the Winston deal.

The longer Winston is waiting for a contract, the better the chances are for him to become a Charger. The interest is there on the Chargers part, they just are looking for the numbers to line up.

Indianapolis Colts NT Antonio Johnson came to San Diego to visit the San. Diego Chargers, per Aaron Wilson. Johnson started 13 games for the Colts last season in Chuck Pagano’s defense, but the Colts were not looking to bring him back in free agency. Now, brother John Pagano could have some interest in bringing Johnson over to San Diego to add more depth on the defensive front.

The Chargers lost a few veterans up front with Antonio Garay, Aubrayo Franklin and Vaughn Martin dipping out of town in free agency. The Chargers have youngsters Corey Liuget, Kendall Reyes and Cam Thomas to start on defense, but the depth behind them is really thin. We just signed Jarius Wynn a few days ago and adding Johnson would add another big body to the defensive front that can play the nose.

It would no way be a sexy signing, but it is depth. It is better than having a bunch of undrafted rookies fighting for jobs. Johnson has played in the NFL for 6 seasons and stands at 6-foot-3, 310 pounds.

More big bodies. More competition. Bring it on.

The San Diego Chargers have added some depth on the defensive front today by signing DE Jarius Wynn to a one-year deal. Wynn has been in the league for 4 seasons and has played with the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans.

He was drafted by the Packers in 2009 in the 6th round and won a championship in Super Bowl XLV with the Pack.

He will be competing for a roster spot on our defensive line. There are plenty of positions open. Aubrayo Franklin, Vaughn Martin and Antonio Garay all dipped out of town and we need depth. Wynn is sure to see a few more vets brought on and a few undrafted free agent signings to compete for those positions.

I don’t know much about him, but I know he is 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds and will have a good shot of making the roster. We need big bodies. I wonder if he has ever thought about playing offensive line? We can just throw anyone out over there and see what sticks.
