Last year I did an article where I went to walterfootball.com, a great football website that also has a mock draft database, and checked approximately 60 mocks and reported the outcomes for the Chargers’ first round pick.

It was a very popular article and people seemed to really enjoy me doing the leg work for them in regards to checking all the mocks out.  Not a single one of those mocks had the Chargers projected to take Melvin Ingram.

This year I’ll be doing the same thing only I’ll be doing a pre-combine, post-combine, and a couple days before the draft  version for the BoltBeat family.

Today I will be listing the pre-combine version.  I went through 66 mock drafts and tallied the projections for our beloved Bolts and their first round draft pick.  There weren’t any huge surprises but we know, as Charger fans, that anything is possible when it comes to the draft.

Below I will list all of the first round picks that were mocked to the Bolts and the number of votes they received.

And, with the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select…..

Lane Johnson  OT  Oklahoma

Johnson received an astounding 26 selections.  The ultra-athletic tackle is a former quarterback and wide receiver.  Although I would be happy with him as our choice, there are a couple of other players I would rather the Chargers take, such as Fisher or Warmack.  That being said, I don’t think that either of those players will be there at 11.

I am stealing this idea from our fellow FanSided Blog Arrowhead Addict. This will be the San Diego Chargers 2013 Mock Draft Challenge. I will run through the first 3 rounds of the draft. You all are free to go through all 7 rounds if you like.

Here are some of the rules for playing this little mock draft:

• The big board on Draft Tek is the official board to make picks from.
• You can go up five positions from your draft position.
• You are free to go down as far as you want to select a player.
• No trades are allowed.

As of now, compensation picks have not been awarded. Once they are, they will get factored into the exercise. Now, onto my picks and explanations.

ROUND 1 (PICK 11): OT Eric Fisher, Central Michigan
If I can grab an offensive tackle in the first round, than I get him. I would’t reach for Lane Johnson with the selection though and would rather grab Chance Warmack if Fisher was not available. Since Fisher is number 7 on the draft board, he falls within reach and would be my selection with the pick.  

ROUND 2  (PICK 45): RB Eddie Lacy, Alabama
If Eddie Lacy lasts this long, which he won’t, then how can I pass him up? The goal this offseason is to add as many weapons to help out Philip Rivers as possible. Since Lacy is number 49 on the draft board, I can’t say NO. Team the kid up with Ryan Mathews and that is a nice tandem out of the backfield. Other players I considered with the selection were SS Matt Elam and RB Andre Ellington. 

ROUND 3 (PICK 76): CB Leon McFadden, SDSU
Keep the kid in San Diego and he can help out that secondary. Antoine Cason and Quentin Jammer could be skipping out of town. Teams can always use help in the secondary. McFadden would be a great pickup in the 3rd round and can see playing time immediately. Another player I considered is RB Montee Ball, but I already took a back in the 2nd.
