The rumor about Rich Bisaccia heading out to Auburn have become official today according to Michael Gehlken. The former Chargers Special Teams coach will take the same position with the Auburn Tigers and will also add the responsibility of running backs coach to his resume.

Bisaccia turned our awful special teams into a pretty decent squad. We did allow 3 blocked punts this season, but we didn’t allow a return for a score and did a solid job.

We will have to find a new special teams guy in town.

Rich Bisaccia, assistant head coach for special teams with the San Diego Chargers, is being rumored as the leading candidate to join first-year head coach Gus Malzahn’s staff at Auburn as their special teams coach/running backs coach.

Bisaccia is considered one of the top special teams coaches in the NFL and has even been mentioned as a possible head coaching candidate in the future. He turned one of the worst special teams in the history of the NFL into a solid squad with the Chargers. He has won a championship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under head coach Jon Gruden. Gruden may make a comeback into the league and would probably give Rich a call.

Bisaccia has been involved with these type of rumors before. For a couple of seasons, he had been mentioned as a possible hire by the Tennessee Volunteers as their special teams coordinator.

Bisaccia could be available soon with Norv Turner likely coaching his last game as the Chargers head coach on Sunday. The rest of the staff likely will be free to look for other coaching jobs with Turner’s release.

Losing Bisaccia would be tough. He has done an excellent job with the Chargers. Whoever the new head coach and GM are, will have the tough task of filling his position.
