Former Chargers safety Kiel thrown from car, dies

Former San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel was killed after he was thrown from a sedan he was driving, police said Saturday. Kiel, 27, was driving alone after leaving a party at about 10:15 p.m. PT Friday night when he hit a wall in San Diego's upscale Scripps Ranch neighborhood and was thrown from the car, police Sgt. Alan Hayward said.

Terrence Kiel, the troubled former safety for the San Diego Chargers, died late Friday in a car crash. Kiel, who played four years in the NFL from 2003-2006, was leaving a party when his 2004 Chevy sedan hit a wall and he was thrown from the car.

2007 was supposed to be the year for the San Diego Chargers… supposed to be. Following a 1-3 start, many questioned the team, especially that first overall pick for many fantasy football owners, LaDanian Tomlinson. It's hard to believe, but Tomlinson had a whopping 130 rushing yards entering week 4. He proceeded to total 132 rushing yards in that game, leading many to believe he was back on top.
