San Diego Chargers held pre-draft workout with La’el Collins

The San Diego Chargers are holding a workout for La’el Collins.

The San Diego Chargers are doing what they can to land La’el Collins in a San Diego Chargers uniform. They were one of the teams that held a pre-draft workout with him and will be looking to sign him to a deal, but there are a number of teams that would be interested in signing the talented young lineman.

Collins also had workouts with the #Chargers, #Bengals and #Eagles, dinner with the #Panthers and #Saints. Worth noting.

The Chargers would offer him the opportunity to start on a young talented offensive line. He would likely battle for the starting right guard position next to D.J. Fluker. Will La’el Collins want to work at right guard in the NFL? If he is willing to make that move then we will have a good chance at signing him to the roster.

Collins would easily be the starting right guard on the Chargers roster if he were signed. He is a first round prospect that was passed up in the draft because he was getting questioned for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. He has been cleared of any wrongdoing and is ready to sign with a team in the NFL. He can bring that physical, mean mentality to the line. Fluker and Collins would feed off of each other.

Collins will not make a lot of money in his first couple of seasons in the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Teams have a pool of money they can use on undrafted free agents and it is not a lot of dough. He would be able to become a free agent after a couple of seasons though and would be able to sign a big deal if he was able to prove himself. He will be looking to prove himself. He will be looking to sign with a team that can give him an opportunity to show what he can do.

Working alongside of Fluker, Philip Rivers and creating holes for Melvin Gordon has to be an intriguing situation for him. Philip Rivers gets rid of the ball quick and that makes his linemen look good. Melvin Gordon is one of the top running back prospects in the game and should bust loose with some big men making room up front. Fluker is entering his 3rd season and can give plenty of wisdom to the young lineman entering the league.

Collins would be huge for the Chargers. Johnnie Troutman would get pushed to the bench and Collins would form a solid right side with Fluker. We would likely run right all day long with those guys out there.

We will see what happens, but getting Collins could be a huge signing for the team.
