First of all, it’s worth mentioning that an offensive lineman pick-up is almost underrated. For example, Orlando Franklin was brought in as one of the first Chargers’ free agency pick-ups, but it attracted little to no attention around the league. Sure he isn’t Jeremy Maclin and doesn’t score touchdowns, but Franklin’s aggressive style of play and versatility to move to tackle and guard will help Rivers and the Chargers in many ways.

Some Charger fans ask for more playmakers, but they should be screaming for another lineman.

It wasn’t receivers that Rivers ever needed in his career. Remember back in around 2010 or 2011 when he was once playing with Seyi Ajirotutu as his starting receiver and threw for over 3 TD passes in those games? When Philip Rivers has protection, he can play with anyone.

Bringing in a fundamental blocker like Mathis would ensure a clean pocket for Philip Rivers next season, as well as many holes for Oliver to run through

In comes Evan Mathis.

Mathis is known as a very fundamental blocker that has the ability to handle anyone 1 on 1 in pass protection, as well as the run. He won’t maul anyone to the ground like Fluker or Franklin tends to do, but he will simply get the job done play after play, exactly what the Chargers may need.

Hell, this guy is a lineman and has a highlight tape of last season.

Mathis graded as the second best guard in the NFL last season with a cumulative score of 25.8 according to ProFootballFocus.com, just behind Marshal Yanda.

With Evan Mathis, the team will find themselves with one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. A great O-line is severely underrated- it allows the QB to have all the time wants and gives the running back many holes to run through (imagine Oliver with that kind of leisure. He had trouble finding a hole last season, but when he did he sure gave us a show).

Get er done Telesco and as always, thanks for reading.
