Philip Rivers has 50/1 odds to win MVP this season

The oddsmakers over in Las Vegas have released their odds for the NFL MVP award for this season. Philip Rivers is 50/1 odds to win the MVP award, courtesy of Bovada, (www.Bovada.lv, Twitter: @BovadaLV). This just means that the season is getting closer.

Looking at some of the other players around the league that have the same odds or better odds to win the MVP award is comedy. Seeing Jay Cutler as one of the top 10 favorites to win the MVP just makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time. These are the people in Las Vegas that make these odds for a living! This is what they do and they believe that Jay Cutler has a decent shot at getting the MVP award!

Eli Manning even has the same odds as Philip to be the NFL MVP. Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Andrew Luck top the list for the MVP odds and those guys all make sense to be a the top of the list. Philip has 3 non-quarterbacks ahead of him in the odds and a grip of other quarterbacks in the league that have higher odds. Pretty amazing.

Will Philip Rivers win the MVP award? I like his chances over some other players in the league.

Just like our superbowl odds were in the same ballpark as the raiders last yr. it’s just another thing that brings the team together.

  • trinity

He has a better shot than some on the list, but it’s still not going to happen. He’ll probably have nice numbers, but only lead the chargers to 8 or 9 wins. That, combined with the fact that he’s playing behind Peyton Manning. He’s not going to win it.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

I think that’s a good place for him. I have no idea why Cutler is up there but I think that’s a good place for Rivers.

  • Stefanie Smith

Andrew Luck and the Colts are SB bound with Luck and his interceptions in a good spot to be MVP? Hardly.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

2-14 to 11-5 with Luck. 8 4th quarter comebacks and 11 winning drives. Can’t argue with that.

      • Stefanie Smith

What was it when Luck threw all those interceptions against New England? An MVP performance? No. He is one grade above a rookie. Good but not great. TY Hilton did alot of that team also. So did Reggie for many years before Luck. He didn’t do it alone.

There is a lot of hype around Luck who went as far as Rivers in the playoffs. If it is no big deal for Rivers, then no big deal for Luck.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

Wait are you comparing Luck to Rivers or Luck against himself? Luck to Rivers I’m picking Rivers but Luck is a VERY good QB. And you can’t judge a QB off the play of one game. That’s not fair. Hilton helped and Wayne was injured but Luck was the head of all that. That team had a so so running game because Richardson and the O line weren’t playing well but there was Luck all along. And yes there is a lot of hype around him and it’s well deserved. In his second year straight he got his team to the playoffs. The defense was so so and he had a weapon or two on offense but that guy took his team to the playoffs. Nearly cost them the game but then willed them back to win. He’s a sophomore in the league and look what he’s done.

Agree. luck is good QB, but to put him ahead of Rivers isn’t right. With the right people around him, luck took his team to the playoffs. With the right people around him Rivers has taken his team to the playoffs. When Rivers didn’t have the right people around him, he still played at a high level. We haven’t seen how Luck will respond, when surrounded by “crap”. However we do know Rivers has always given his team a chance to win games, even when his “genius” play caller was feeding him “crappy” plays.

          • Marcel West-Bailey

I’ll tell you what though and some fans may not want to hear this but Luck could very well be a better QB than Rivers when it’s all said and done.

          • arnie

He very well could be, and Rivers could be a 3 time Superbowl Champion by then. Rivers “couldv’e” been a Champion if LT never left for New York an Marty were still the HC…
All would could shoulda maybe’s. like everything we will see.

  • arnie

Hmmm this list looks awfully familiar? “Philip Rivers ranks 6 by league insiders” now I know where they got that list from. Yeah when it comes to vegas, they always play the numbers and they will always play the numbers that favor them. The reality is no matter how well PR plays, “HE WON’T WIN IT”.
Part of it is stats, the other is, you have to be a favorite of the people that do the voting. This is Manning, Brady, an Lucks award. Brees an Rodgers are only considered because their rings an numbers can’t be ignored. Then there is everybody else, then Rivers.

  • Amos Mikaele

Peyton, Luck, or Brees can have the MVP. It’s the Super Bowl that I want Rivers to win.

  • Adam

I’m so sick of having to defend Rivers as an elite QB when his play defends himself. Hell, I have to argue that he is even good to some of my idiot friends, people at sports bars, and online trolls. Take last year as an example…he was second only to Manning, above all other QB’s, and this was during Manning’s best year ever! Rivers was electric, and just think of how good he would be, or how his career stats would look, if he had mike McCoy and the Whiz from the start of his career until now! Arrrgh its so frustrating I just can’t wait for this season to start, and for Rivers to have an even better season than Peyton this year. It could easily happen too! Manning is getting older and older, and our linebackers are going to be running down his throat. LETS GO BOLTS!!!!!!!!!!

    • Gunnar Martin

Word bro. Exactly how I feel.

      • Adam

Yep. If I think about how the “experts” always overlook him for too long, it starts giving me cancer.

    • Robert Fairbanks

Just think how good Rivers could be if he could run!

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

i am hoping that manning drops off soon too…. Rivers is one of the best in the game.

      • Adam

Yes! Stats usually don’t lie. And another thing I like about rivers is how he NEVER blames anyone else, like his lineman for example when he was the most sacked QB in the league. Contrast that with jay cutler and how he cusses and yells at his lineman, and even shoves them. Were just very lucky to have PR.

  • Edward Sherman

what pisses me off what has LUCK done hype wagon keeps rollin. oh wait RG3 wants in.

    • Marcel West-Bailey

Because when he wasn’t there they were 2-14 and when he got there in his rookie season they went 11-5. In 2 years he’s got 8 4th quarter comeback wins and 11 game winning drives. Sure he’s got some turnover issues but he is that good. Forget the media, if NFL players are talking about this guy being great, he probably isn’t bad.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Yeah… Luck is pretty effing good.. not sure what people are dogging him out for.

        • Marcel West-Bailey

I DON’T KNOW MAN!!! In all seriousness, if I had to pick one of the young QB’s to take over for Rivers, other than Cam because of my Auburn bias I’m picking Luck with absolutely no hesitation.

        • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

I don’t like Luck…. only because he is on the other team! The dude is legit

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Even if his odds were higher… they would vote for Eddie Lacey in a close race ; )

    • http://boltbeat.com/ Ernie Padaon

      hahahahahaha… damn it

  • ECAVILLE/Ace of Spades

All Philip Rivers needs is Championship Rings to be considered top notch! That will come in due time. It’s just about that time to……♠⚡

  • Edward Sherman

all i am saying is Flip will never get that kinda Hype, has it always been his fault our team has sucked at times, hell lose jackson, sproles and countless others Rivers keeps trudging.

  • Nick619chargers4life

I’m Going out to Vegas for a bachelor party pretty soon and I’m really considering putting money down on the Chargers for multiple categories. Go Chargers !!!
