The San Diego Chargers fell just short of reaching the AFC Championship game last year.

Losing 17 to 24 to the powerhouse Denver Broncos in the second round of the playoffs isn’t too shabby. The Chargers had a good season.

But going into 2014, expectations are higher. The fans don’t just want an appearance to the playoffs anymore, however they want a Super Bowl ring.

There are a lot of players that needs to be successful, but there are the players that are absolutely essential to the Chargers’ success in 2014-2015. Obviously, they are the core of this football team. The list shouldn’t surprise you.

Great Article, your a talented writer. But I think you are overrating King Dunlap

I think he hit the nail on the head with KING D!! He was a power horse last year and as long as he stays healthy he will climb the ranks of top LT in the NFL.

Daniel, were you with us last year? So many of us, especially me, questioned the signing of the King. I based mine solely on Philly’s opinion and the Philly fans. I was fully convinced that the King would get Rivers killed or at the very least crippled. I was wrong. The guy put a lot out there and he tackled. He did his part. He just has to stay healthy.

He played a whole lot better than many of us expected.

  • Marcel West-Bailey

My 3 that have to have a good season: the defensive line, the linebackers, and the secondary.

I like the way you think…
I did read the title, and began 2 think like u.
Pagano, needs to have a great year, hands down. He’s got the talent now.
Trainers need to have a season where the injury bug is at an all time low.
Lastly, the D Line needs to take no prisoners this year.
Everything else would fall into place…My fingers are crossed. How about yours?
      Go Chargers!!!

I’ll add hardwick to that list of just missed the cut…

Melvin and Freeney have to really be good also and stay healthy

  • Alter Ego

Heck our offense produced the 5th best passing and rushing yards last year. If our offense managed to repeat that…then my list is all defensive. I consider it essential for these guys to excel for us to advance.
    1. Melvin Ingram
    2.Dwight Freeney
    3.Brandon Flowers
    4.Jason Verrett
    5.Manti Te’o / Sean Lissemore

  • Austin Carter

We have to keep running the football effectively… If not we become vertically challenged in the passing game. Keys to successful Philip rivers is run the ball!

Melvin and dwight are easily the most important pieces to the team for the upcoming season. They produce pressure on 3rd downs and we will be in for an amazing season.
