Chargers Release Brandon Jones to make room for Brandon Flowers

The San Diego Chargers have made the roster move to make some space for Brandon Flowers by releasing Brandon Jones off of the roster, per Chargers twitter account. Flowers could make up to $5 million for this contract, but the team was able to mastermind a contract that worked under the salary cap.

Jeromey Clary’s name came up as a possible player to be released, but since the team was able to work a cap friendly contract they didn;t have to deal with cutting the vet off of the roster.

I like that the team is able to keep Clary on the roster. He is a tough player up front and has the ability to play multiple positions on the line. He might not be the best player we have, but he is the best option that we have at this time.

And there it is, the unlucky fella to get the axe.

If anyone thought Clary was going anywhere at this point, they should have their head examined. Having said that, he is an awful player, a total waste of space, and should have been replaced FOREVER ago. I don’t get it… I never will… and no T-Shirts until he is gone.

tell us how you really feel PT :)

I know people have made their peace with it… but, show me one tangible stat that indicates he is even average. And save the “he stays healthy, is a good locker room guy, and his benefits are intangible” speeches. People act like there aren’t any other “good locker room guys” or leaders on this squad… or say he is Fluke’s mentor. TRUST ME.. Fluker is just fine without Clary. That is a huge loaf of BS! He is just a bad player that manages to stay on the field a lot. And, now he’s hurt too.

          • FitzWilly

I whole heartedly agree with you pete
he is not worth the money he is getting
for some reason TT an MM have taken a shine to him
we will have to grin and bear it for now

          • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

In the prose of Jim Lahey from Trailer Park Boys… “He’s nothing but a shit-hawk, Randy… swooping down out of the sky, and grabbing up all the shit-dollars, so nobody else can have them”. Lol…

          • FitzWilly

            ROTFLMAO
            You still got it PT
            well done sir

          • arnie

Hold up, All that BS does matter. taylor was player a lot of fans liked, and wanted to see him compete in camp, because he couldn’t stay healthy, he’s gone. See at some point you just hate a player so much, that any rational reasoning, becomes irreliveant and that’s just sad.
For whatever reason he is still here, If he helps keep Rivers off the ground, and open a few more holes for the RB’s, then screw it, he’s worth every penny he get’s. Quite simply the thought of Rivers being on the ground a few more times, without Clary here, is not a sacrifice i’m want to make, just to satisfy a personal dis-like. Clary made two mistakes, he signed the contract aj gave him as a rookie, and he signed the second bloated deal aj gave him. Other than that, he won the starting job and will be out the door the minute another players beats him, or his contract expires.
And yes I know he sucks, but it is what it is…

Call me crazy but I actually liked Clary last season.
And we really missed him vs the Broncos.

The guy is 6’6 320 and really athletic for a RG.

          • arnie

That’s my point. He stepped up an produced for a team that was hurting for players.

  • powderBLUE801

So many players who share my name. Two Brandon’s have been cut and we add one more Brandon. Lol kinda crazy

  • Gunnar Martin

Thought it would be one of the corners. There are just so many of them, even with this dude gone. Guess we’ll have to wait till the preseason rolls around for Mouton to get the pink slip.

  • esco charger

I think the corner position will be cb1 B.flowers cb2 S. Wright cb3 S.Williams cb4 J.verrett cb5 R.Marshall cb6 B. Ghee this position went from being a weakness on the defensive side of the ball to being the deepest position behind the running back position on the whole team

    • Trey P

VERRETT WILL BE STARTING NEVER NUMVER 4 CB!!

    • Tyreece Kaete Sr.

Yeah Trey P is right Verrett will start at either the number 3 or 2

      • Gunnar Martin

I don’t know, we’ve been hearing GREAT things about Steve Williams so far. Plus, Verrett has that shoulder surgery to come back from. Of course he’ll start eventually but I think it’ll be a while.

    • Bill Nichols

Easy does it. Didn’t we all say that last year regarding our Wide Receiver corps? Then BOOM, they started dropping like flies…. Just saying, please, don’t jinx our secondary.. Bolts Baby!!!

  • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Practice squad guy. The real question is “who is out when the roster gets trimmed”? Crezdon Butler is out. Gilchrist probably stays as our back up safety. So, it’s Flowers, Wright, Marshall, Verrett, Ghee, Williams.. in no particular order. Guess Davis & Darby are out.

    • Aaron Johnson

I think Gilchrist is playing for a roster spot. He wasnt that good at safety and we have a few solid options inside and out at CB. I like Gilchrist personally but he seems like the odd man out (which in my opinion is a good problem to have for how terrible our secondary was last year).

      • Gunnar Martin

Maybe we could trade him. Wouldn’t get much out of it, but he’s got starting experience with some production.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

One can only hope he isn’t our safety. But, something tells me he isn’t going anywhere.. like Clary.

    • Robert Fairbanks

37 players will be out, now putting a name on those sent packing will be the hard choices coaches make.

    • Gunnar Martin

I’ll be a little sad when Butler gets cut (although we all know it’s gonna happen). I had to make a fictional name for a project in Graphic Design like eight months ago, and it was awesome. I used his first name as part of it. Crezdon Damaryius McFly. I use it as my pen name now when I need one.

      • http://www.BoltBeat.com/ Peter Thompson

Lol… I do like the name Crezdon…. Crez-Do is such a cool nickname!

  • rickochey

‘ at QB Brandon Rivers, at RB Brandon Mathews, at kicker Brandon Scifres, at Safety Brandon Weddle…..”

    • Tyreece Kaete Sr.

Lol i think they ment Brandon Taylor

      • rickochey

it seems that Telesco is replacing everyone with the name Brandon

  • Tyreece Kaete Sr.

I think he means Brandon Taylor?, haven’t heard of a Charger name Brandon Jones

    • Nick Mansoor

Brandon Jones was our practice squad CB. He didn’t really do much.

    • Gunnar Martin

Nope, he exists. They cut both of them. Jones has hovered around the roster for some time now, but he never made any real impact.
